Reunion Update #16

Summary of the night
What happens at the 20 Year Reunion and related events, stays at the Reunion and said events. In the famous words of Josh Roering, we “burnt that mother f#$%er down”. Nearly 170 folks came back to let it ride. And I must say, our class looked pretty damn good. Particularly for pushing 40. Lots of laughs, smiles and general catch-up took place. Great music and outstanding ambiance. It was amazing how many folks attended their first reunion ever. Very cool. At the heat of the Reunion, when drinks were being thrown back like we were at The Pit in Vadnais Heights, there were some nervous looking folks when St. Paul’s finest showed up. Concern was alleviated when we saw it was our own Len Manning on the beat. A nice surprise. After wrapping up things at the 317, a group of about 40 folks went to Patrick McGovern’s to close that place down. The 2 bartenders and 8 folks at the bar before us still have no idea what the hell hit them. In conclusion, we are 5 years older, but in good shape. And at least for a weekend, we can let it ride like we were 18 again. Of course recovery time is slightly extended to nearly a week. See you in 5 years or less for another Epic evening.

We ended up slightly ahead so thanks to those who came on game night. We had 17 walk-ups and that was the difference.

Last but Not Least
I wanted to pass along a quick email from Arnie Angeloni who was unable to make it. I thought it hit the nail on the head. A huge thanks to folks like him, Bobi Le and everyone else protecting our country today in the military. True heroes of the MV Class of 1990.

A good part of me regrets that I will not be attending this bodacious event….for I have taken leave to visit my Northwoods stomping ground twice this summer already. I have fond memories of my Mounds View days, and can picture everyone in our class, as they were, the day we graduated. Talk about trends changing. We were crazy. I hope the reunion is a hit, and all of you have an awesome time catching up, and reminiscing of the days of old. I will be with you in spirit. Have fun, be safe. As we say in the Navy, I wish you “Fair Winds, and Following Seas”. – Arnie

Reunion Update #15

It’s hard to believe that we have been out of school longer than we were together in school. Damn. As a matter of fact, some of us have kids that are enrolled at Mounds View and other area high schools. I think what makes nights like what Saturday will be important is that 20 years can go by and we can get together like yesterday was June 4, 1990 (our graduation day) and connect. there aren’t many relationships like that.

Over the course of the past few months as connections and re-connections have been made, we have realized our class has done some pretty incredible stuff and some very cool shit. We cover the globe. And it all started for most of us when we were 10,11 and 12 years old. Some of you are on the fence, worried about a variety of things. Please don’t be. The focus of these shin digs is for 3-4 hours to reflect on some fond memories and to catch up. Share some smiles and some crazy stories. It’s amazing how refreshing it is for the soul to rekindle friendships with folks that you grew up with. That is what has aligned and rallied the committee of folks who helped set up this epic weekend. On behalf of the entire Committee, see you Saturday! — Coop

Some final thoughts:

Dress for Saturday
Our site is pretty laid back and casual. Thus dress will be the same. We expect the majority to fall in the range of jeans casual to business casual. However, some will be in shorts and some will be in suits I am sure (Cooper will be in shorts). Wear whatever you are comfortable in. Our apologies if this lack of specificity is a detractor.

Come early
Again, there will be hosted Summit beer and wine starting at 7:00pm. We will continue to assess registrations through Saturday, including those at the door. As we hit numbers, we will have more hosted beverages.

Alumni Soccer Game
For those interested in some futbol/soccer, there will be a pick-up soccer game for guys and girls starting at 8:30 AM on Saturday August 7th. Meet at the upper practice fields at Mounds View High School. Please contact Josh Curlee for more info and to include our name on the list.

Pictures
As a way to set the mood, we will have pictures from past and present on a slide show at the reunion. Would love a picture of you over the past 20 years. Do you have a monumental picture where you met President Clinton, scaled Mount Everest, or perhaps spent time in a Turkish prison? Also great would be pictures with you and your kids. Any pictures you would like to share, please email to Rich Harmer. Preference is a jpeg file.

To aid in determining our group from other individuals and to identify those who have paid, those registered will receive a green and white MV Class of 90 wristband a la the Livestrong Yellow bands. Bar tenders will only serve those with the wristband.

For those registered for the reunion, you can get started early with a Friday golf event at Gem Lake. There are still a few available tee times, starting around 1:45pm. Please contact Grayson Helgason if you are interested.

We were able to get a great deal at the St. Paul Hotel, which is a short walk from the reunion site. Rooms are $139 plus tax. Please call 1-800-292-9292 and ask for the “Mounds View H.S. 20th Reunion”.

All other hotels wanted a guarantee on the number of rooms, so we have no deals. Reunion Update #14

We are at 134 people (110 alums) and counting. Only a few more days before an unbelievably epic night. One thing to consider if you are on the fence…Come to the party. It will be more fun then you imagine. And trust me, for every one person you want to see, there are 3 folks who are looking forward to seeing you and catching up. Take a look at this roster – many are traveling from across the U.S. or even internationally to be there. Many are making their first reunion. Good times!!

One teacher will be attending as well – Mr. Nygaard and his wife will be a honored guest!

Reunion Update #13

We are at 122 people (100 alums). Need 160 to breakeven so hoping a bunch of you are looking to register shortly. You can find the link to register below. If you are planning to come, please take a few moments to register.

See below for update on alum soccer game on Saturday, beer/wine info (and hosted bar!), what food will be there, etc.

Input Needed on Beer and Wine
Get there early, we will start with some hosted beer and wine. In order to make sure we have the right mix, please reply if you have an opinion on 1) Are you a beer or wine fan and 2) for beer, our choices are Summit, Michelob Golden Light, Bud Light and Miller Light. Current plan is about 20 bottles of wine and 2 kegs of hosted booze.

Some thoughts on next weekend:

Don’t pre-party elsewhere, post-party elsewhere. Arrive at the event on the earlier side so that the committee doesn’t consume all the hosted alcohol…
There are events at the Ordway and River Center on August 7th, but not at the Xcel. Street parking will be a little scarce, but there should be plenty of parking in the ramps and lots around the Xcel.
The main door for 317 is just a few steps toward the river from the Herb Brooks statue.

What food will be onsite?
This is not a “sit down” meal, but there will be plenty of food and a room set-up conducive to mixing and mingling, with outstanding food selections to suit everyone’s preferences, including:

A double-tier display of grilled marinated mushrooms and seasonal vegetables to include asparagus, roasted peppers, zucchini and yellow squash
A triple-tier display dip of black beans, sour cream, guacamole, shredded cheddar cheese, sliced jalapeños, scallions, sliced black olives, shredded lettuce and diced vine ripened tomatoes served with hand fried tri-color corn tortilla chips
Tri-color cheese cappelletti with marinara sauce, penne pasta with artichoke pesto with bay shrimp, and farfalle pasta with Chardonnay sauce and grilled breast of chicken served with fresh Parmesan cheese and homemade Parmesan garlic bread
Slow roasted breast of turkey served with mayonnaise, cranberry relish and silver dollar rolls
Butler passed Hors d’Oeuvres to include Maytag Bleu Cheese with Pesto Fava Beans on Purple Potatos, Mini Chicken Tacos with Fresh Tomato Salsa, Bourbon Meatballs, and Wonton Shrimp with Popper Jam
Dessert. Really, really fun dessert selection!

Hello to All!

The 20 year reunion is upon us. The golf event and poker tournament that we are planning for will be on Friday, August 6th. I need for people to call me to set up their Tee-Times for golf. Also, if you have specific people that you would like to play golf with I need that information as well. We have Tee Times starting at 1:00 thru 2:30 or 3:00 depending on how many people are playing. If you don’t want to golf you’re still welcome to join us at Gem Lake Golf Course for food and fun! The course will allow people to rent golf carts to ride around the course and socialize for $13.50 a cart or $6.75 per person. We will have plenty of food at the grill after the round as well as be awarding a few prizes for differant things on the course.

The Poker Tournament will start at 7:00 and run until around 10:00 or so. Running Aces also has Live Horse Racing and many other Table Games to enjoy. I need a head count on the Poker Tournament ASAP so we can make sure they have enough staff to handle our group

Are you registered? Top 10 reasons to attend the Reunion:
10. Rather than going to Perry Park at dusk, we are headed to posh 317 on Rice Event Center.
9. Music – instead of Milli Vanilli and Van Halen, we will have an acoustic set from local artist Terry Dubois.
8. Place to crash – instead of your buddy’s floor or couch, you can book a hotel at the 4 star St. Paul Hotel (details below)
7. Drinks – instead of wine coolers and Hamm’s, you can get top shelf and premium beer and booze.
6. Attire much better – instead of pinned pants, Guess jeans, Girbaud jeans or fluorescent colors; you can wear whatever you are comfortable in (most will be business/jean casual).
5. Hairspray levels: will be low instead of high (no fire risk)
4. Ways to talk to your friends to register: instead of pay phones and the phone outside office of MV; you can use cell/twitter/facebook/email/etc.
3. Transportation: instead of the Ryder Bus or spree scooter/moped; we can count how many folks have a mini-van! Who has a mini-van??
2. Food: instead of McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and Davanni’s; there will be light hors d’oeuvres from Pazzaluna caterers
1. Curfew at 11:00pm moved to when the damn sun comes up!

The winner is the district that can gain the most new fans on its Facebook page. The superintendent of the losing district has agreed to wear the other district’s spiritwear for a day.
